At the end of March 2024, The City of Arlington approved rezoning of a 45-acre shopping center in Arlington at the request of Trademark Property Company, a full-service real estate company focusing on mixed-use developments. The 40-year-old shopping center, currently named Lincoln Square, will be rebranded to "Anthem". Conveniently located near I-30 and Arlington's sports venues, the project will begin demolition in Q2 2025.

Given the project's proximity to AT&T Stadium, residents will likely pray for excessive traffic on Sundays in January and FebruarySource: Google Maps

Trademark does not plan to completely raze the pre-existing shopping center. In executing their signature* mixed-use strategy, they will be keeping 243,000 SF of the legacy shopping center and renovating an additional 65,000 SF. A total of 229,000 SF will be demolished to make room for the project, which will include:

  • 152,000 SF of new retail and restaurants
  • 125,000 SF of office and co-working space
  • An (up to) 200-key hotel
  • 335 apartments (built to NGBS and LEED bronze standards)

Ample green space should help sell residents on the areaSource: Trademark Property Company

Given proximity to AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field, and other venues, the hotel certainly makes sense in the context. However, Trademark hopes Anthem itself becomes a destination for outdoor concerts, wellness classes, artist markets, and other community events.

Trademark has been working closely with local stakeholders for the past year in designing the project. Working in a public-private partnership with The City of Arlington, Trademark has involved the community in every step, including the name: "Anthem" is meant to evoke the "honor, pride, authenticity, and unification the property and surrounding areas stand for". That level of thoughtfulness certainly implies a push for Anthem to be something greater than a simple shopping center with residences.

Jeff Johnson, managing director of development at Trademark, spoke to the value of the work with The City:

We have carefully listened to the community and City of Arlington to fully understand their hopes and dreams for a reimagined Lincoln Square. This is a truly transformational project and a new point of connectivity for the greater metroplex. With the right mix of uses and a vibrant public realm, Anthem will become a lively destination that brings people together to share joy and make memories.

Jim Ross, the mayor of Arlington, is spoke to the investment's benefits:

With new shops and restaurants, inviting green space for community events, and attractive places to work and stay, Trademark’s redeveloped Anthem will be a first-class destination for Arlington residents and visitors alike.
